How We Calculate This
How It Works
This calculator uses a database of recommended bed temperatures for each material and adjusts based on bed surface type.
- Base temperature — optimal temperature for the material on a PEI surface
- Surface offset — adjustment for different bed surfaces (e.g. +5°C for glass, -5°C for textured PEI)
- First layer — typically 5°C higher than the main bed temp for better adhesion
- Ambient offset — add degrees for cold rooms (unenclosed printer loses heat faster), subtract for hot rooms
- Enclosure bonus — enclosed printers trap heat, reducing the effective bed temp needed
Always do test prints to fine-tune for your specific printer and environment.
