What is the maximum overhang angle without supports?

How does layer height affect overhangs?

Thinner layers improve overhang performance because each layer extends less distance horizontally. A 0.1mm layer at 45 degrees only extends 0.1mm per layer, while a 0.3mm layer extends 0.3mm. This gives thinner layers more surface contact with the layer below.

What is the difference between overhang angle and bridge distance?

An overhang is where a new layer extends beyond the layer below it at an angle. A bridge is a horizontal span between two support points with nothing below. Bridging is a separate challenge that depends more on cooling and print speed than angle.

How can I improve overhang quality without supports?

Reduce layer height to 0.12mm or less. Maximise part cooling fan speed. Slow down print speed for overhang areas. Use a material with good overhang properties like PLA. Orient the part so overhangs face away from the fan if possible.
